Escape from the Communist Army

It was the end of June 1979 the orders to an army base were for September, there were only two months left during which time something of an extraordinary and supernatural nature had to take place, but Joseph had no clue as to what.
Wandering aimlessly on the streets of Warsaw, brokenhearted Joseph openly wept blaming God for disappointing him. "Perhaps God is just a figment of my imagination and He did not speak to me" - he thought.
Being so devastated and in terrible pain he sat on a ledge on a bridge and next to a lantern looking at street trams passing by. He finally quieted down. Joseph remembered scripture from Psalms 46:10 "Cease striving and know that I am God."
"Be still." God whispered into Joseph’s heart. Like a flash of revelation Joseph realized that unless he is still God will not speak for He, unlike the officer at the army base, does not need to shout. In his stillness now he could clearly hear an order of the Supreme General, "go back to the police station and apply again."
Really Lord? Should I do that? Then the Lord said, “I am able to open the blind eyes, but I am also able to close the seeing eyes.’ And that was the end of conversation for God had expected Joseph’s action
The next day Joseph went back to the same Police Station he was at the day before. He successfully applied for the passport and no one asked him anything.
Meanwhile some American friends invited Joseph to visit the US. A doctor and his wife wrote an invitation with a copy sent to the US Embassy in Warsaw. The invitation contained a commitment of sponsorship without which the authorities would not allow anyone from Poland to enter the Country.
Under the Carter era America had a high unemployment rate and hardly any foreigner was allowed to come and work in the US. More than 35 thousand Poles applied for visas, but only the immediate families were permitted to rejoin and these applicants were called special cases.
