Escape from the Communist Army
![]() |
Joseph Luxum studied classical flute and piano at Warsaw's Conservatory for four years. The compulsory service in the Army could have been postponed until the age of 24 at which every young man must be drafted. Although there was the possibility to study music in the army Joseph prayed all of his life that he, like his father, would never learn to kill another human being. |

One day, while being pressured by his logically thinking father Joseph had to confront him with the truth, which was burnt into his heart, a promise of the Lord’s supernatural deliverance.
Joseph’s father, who did not know anything about hearing the Lord’s voice, was still trying to persuade the young man when his son burst out; "Thus says the Lord, I have already made the way and I will supernaturally deliver Joseph so that you might know that I am the Lord!" Taken aback silent and totally disoriented Joseph’s father swallowed the lump in his throat and then whispered. "Son I hope you know what you are doing." Being a God-fearing man from that time onwards he no longer meddled in Joseph’s plans.
Joseph went to the police station of his district where everyone applies for a passport. He tried to apply for his, but was asked to provide first a formal release from the compulsory service in the army. Nonchalantly he said ‘ no problem’ and left the room.
He went straight to the Army headquarters and gave his name asking for a release. He was called out, but the moment he entered the room an officer shouted. "Salute! You are in the army now!" Then instead of release papers he was handed draft papers, a military book and ticket for his travel to the army base. The major shouted again asking the perplexed man to salute and leave the room.
